A Fun Twist for Hide and Go Seek

Looking for games to play with your children? This particular version of hide and go seek can be played anytime, anywhere. It can be in your yard, in your house (excellent for rainy days) on camping trips, or even in a small park.

In traditional hide and go seek, several players hide while one player looks for them. In "Sardines" all but one player hides, and the rest look for him.

The person who is "it" tries and finds a good hiding place and stays hidden. The rest of the players count to twenty in a secure area so they can't see where the "it" person is hiding. After they reach 20, they split up and look for the hider. If one player finds him, he hides with him and they try and stay hidden. When the next player finds them, he hides with them as well, hence the name, "Sardines". When there is only one seeker left, the game is over and the person who was left looking now becomes the hider.

This game is super fun, especially for older kids who think that traditional hide and go seek is too babyish.

Another really fun game for teenagers is German Spotlight.

Break the kids up into two teams. You need a large playing field for this one. You play this game at night, when it's dark, and everybody has a flashlight. This game is similar to Capture the Flag, with a twist. Each team has their base, where their flag is. The team will have certain players who will go out to capture the flag and certain players who are spotters. The kids will try and maneuver their way to the other teams flag, but if they get caught, a spotlight (a flashlight) is shined on them, and they must return to their base and start again.

What kind of group games do your kids like to play?

This sounds like so much fun! I'll have to share it with my kids tonight!

Very cute! I wish I had heard of this when I was younger.

I just saw a little problem with Sardines. It's supposed to be one player hides, not all but one player hides. Sorry!
