Getting a Bargain on Glassware

You know how everything seems to happen in threes? It happened at my house this week. Three drinking glasses shattered or cracked mysteriously, as if they all suddenly decided that they were at the end of their useful life. That left us with only two glasses left, plus a sturdy mug we got as a freebie and several plastic cups that had just been put in the donation pile (my kids are now old enough to handle glass). We eyed the two glasses warily. Would they suddenly decide to break, too? We couldn’t be sure. Plus, two glasses and one … Continue reading

Chasing House Flies

On the surface I had a lovely afternoon yesterday. I returned from a good time volunteering with friends at a local museum and spent a productive afternoon finishing a lot of work. That’s just the surface story. In reality as the hours of the afternoon waned I was driven crazier and crazier, as a headache crept further and further into my skull. And it’s all my pets’ fault. Well, just Chihiro and Cole. What did they do that made me insane? They chased house flies. I don’t know how so many flies got into my house, but there must have … Continue reading

Be A Good Houseguest

Are you having houseguests for the holidays? I love having company almost as much as I love being company. Mostly because I get to visit with people that I don’t see that often and if I go to their home I get a real glimpse of their world. It makes it easier to imagine the things they tell me about once I’m back home. However, houseguests are not always everyone’s favorites, and it’s usually because of a bad experience with houseguests in the past. If you want to be invited back there are a few simple rules to follow follow: … Continue reading

Preventing Injuries as You Prepare Your House for the Holidays

Whoever thought that decorating your home could be dangerous? Well according to the “U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,” injuries from holiday decorating and decorations are on the rise. I read that many people are cut from shattered glass ornaments and falling from ladders while trying to put up lights or other holiday decorations. Burn injuries and deaths are also issues when it comes to fires caused by candles or Christmas trees. No one likes to think it could happen to them but we really do need to keep safety in the back of our minds as we prepare our homes … Continue reading

I am a Mormon Mommy blogger. I am not famous in the blogging world, but I have a handful of friends that like to read what I post. I heard about this article on none other than a fellow mormon mommy blogger’s blog. The article was written tastefully, and shared some fun blogs that you should check out if you aren’t following them already. She refers to us as … Continue reading

A Glass House

I can’t stop thinking about the recent death of Rutgers University student, Tyler Clementi, who killed himself after a roommate posted online a secret recording of him engaging in a sexual encounter. Two students, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei, are being charged with invasion of privacy. Invasion of privacy has hit a new level it seems. The idea that two people could do something so cruel is beyond me. I cannot wrap my mind around it. I cannot imagine how the parents of Tyler Clementi feel and what they are going through. To add to the matter, before he jumped … Continue reading

Japanese Thrive in Tiny Houses

I’ve blogged about tiny houses before. Many Americans are rethinking how much space they want in a home. Do we really need 3,500 or larger square feet homes? In my case, the more house we have, the more junk we put in it. And you have to heat, cool, and light all the room that you probably don’t need to begin with, so it isn’t very green. In Japan, it isn’t really an issue. Because the country’s cities are already overcrowded, its people have learned to live in smaller homes because they have no other choice. The neat thing is … Continue reading
