A Sure Sigh of Spring

Sigh! Make that siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh! Spring has sprung in our neck of the woods, but instead of ushering in gentle breezes, colorful blossoms and the sweet sound of chirping cardinals, I’m dealing with high temperatures and a cacophony of coughs. My kid has spring fever. Literally. I blame Mother Nature. For starters my daughter suffers from allergies. Environmental stimulants, such as pollen and ragweed result in itchy, watery eyes, a running nose, and non-stop sneezing. On top of that, she’s done with school. And by done I mean her ability to concentrate on schoolwork is nil since the mercury has hit … Continue reading

August 1st Getting Out Grass Stains With summer in full swing, chances are that your family has been playing outdoors quite a bit. Family-Friendly Spring Break Destinations

Sure, we just returned from a wonderful Hawaiian holiday, but as you know from my previous blog, that hasn’t stopped us from diving head first into new travel material in search of the ultimate family-friendly spring break destination. Here are a few more spots we are considering: Washington, D.C. What are you asking for this Mother’s Day? A clean basement? Not if your husband’s idea of “cleaning” is tossing out all of your stuff. An expensive vacuum? Disney Parks Raising Ticket Prices

It might really be time to take advantage of those cheaper flights to Orlando, because Disney World’s just raised its ticket costs. The Orlando Business Journal reports that over the first weekend of June, Disney World bumped its one-day, single-park ticket to $89, when previously it cost $85. This might have been in response to Disney World’s biggest competitor, Universal Studios Orlando, raising its one-day single-park ticket price to $88. I think not, because the prices on many types of park tickets are going up this summer. Four-, five- and seven-day tickets to Disney World now cost $256, $268, and … Continue reading

It’s Walpurgis Night – So What’s That?

Six months ago I profiled Chernabog in my Halloween list of the most frightening Disney moments. Chernabog is a Slavic deity; not much is known about him, but as Christian traditions took over the pagan ones in Europe he was seen as a black god, even sometimes associated with or as the devil. The Night on Bald Mountain sequence from “Fantasia,” which contains Chernabog, is according to the conductor who introduces the segment set on Walpurgis Night. I’d never heard of Walpurgis Night, or at least it never registered as I watched “Fantasia,” so I thought I would research it. … Continue reading

Sun Sense

With Mother Nature bypassing spring and moving directly into summer, many shutterbugs have been able to get in some outdoor shots far sooner than expected. Record high temperatures have been recorded from coast-to-coast this month, and there are no signs of a decline in sight. While the nice weather may have inspired you to document the first signs of spring or simply take some snaps of your child wearing a swimsuit in the middle of March, there are some factors you should keep in mind before pressing your camera’s shutter button: Made in the Shade: The sun is the best … Continue reading
