Since today is National Trail Mix Day I thought that it would be a good idea to give a quick and easy recipe for trail mix, in its honor.

Trail mix is often taken on the road to increase your stamina and your energy levels. It is just the right type of snack to bring along with you because it is packed with vitamins.

How to Make Trail Mix:

Gather up all of the ingredients that you will need, such as sealable baggies, a non-sugary cereal, raisins, dried apricots, dried peaches, chocolate hard shelled candies (such as M&Ms, pretzels and nuts. Unsalted pretzels and nuts work the best and keep your hands cleaner, so that you are not a sticky mess after you eat it. Use a half to three-quarters of a handful of each item for a single serving. Mix them all together in a pan or a large dish.

Health Benefits: *Raisins: Raisins contain iron to help prevent anemia. They also in aid in constipation relief, are good for your eyes, bones and help to protect you against tooth decay. *Dried Apricots: Dried apricots are good for your skin, help to prevent anemia, help you to keep from getting constipated, are low in calories and give relief from indigestion. *Dried Peaches: Dried peaches are low in calories, help with constipation and aid in lowering blood pressure. *Nuts: Although nuts are quite high in calories, just a handful of nuts have health benefits, such as they aid in decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol.

These are just some of the health benefits that you will receive when you eat these foods either separately or in trail mix. Not only are they healthy for you, but they taste delicious and it is something that kids will usually eat too.
