Planning Your Baby’s First Birthday: Decorations

First birthday parties are probably more for the moms than they are for the babies, but they are a lot of fun for the whole family. A lot goes into planning the first birthday party. Over the next week, I will go over all the little details of party planning, so you will be well prepared for your child’s very first birthday party. One of the highlights for me was the decorating. I love to decorate, so I had a great time designing cupcakes, a custom birthday t-shirt, a sign, and decorating the house. I decided to go with cupcakes … Continue reading

Planning a Pooh Bear Birthday Party

Being big Winnie the Pooh fans around here, we have thrown several “silly old bear” themed parties. Because there is so much Pooh related stuff out there, it is an easy party to put together. You won’t have any trouble finding Pooh plates, Pooh shaped cake pans, or even Pooh piñatas. All of that stuff is fine, but it’s more fun (and cheaper) to get a little creative. And making your own party stuff gets the children involved. For invitations think about brown honey pot shaped paper, or a red shirt shaped card with the word “Pooh” on the front. … Continue reading

Letters of Love: Color & Music

When we’re young and married, we expect our spouses to be with us for the rest of our lives. But as we age, our spouse may predecease us and our children grow and they may leave us alone. It is this time of our lives when we may seek the companionship of others and if we’re truly fortunate, we may find another – a friend, a companion and even another love who can share what we colorfully call the golden years of our lives. Today’s letter is from one such woman to the man who has brought color and sound … Continue reading

Letters of Love: Run; Don’t Walk Home

When you marry someone in the military, it can create a stress for both of you – when you’re both in the military and you’re both deployed in different areas, the situation could seem intolerable for both of you. Today’s letter of love is from someone in just such a relationship. Run; Don’t Walk Home Dear Diane, This might be a hokey way of sending a letter to you, but you have always told me that you like the grand gestures. This month, it’s my turn to be the army wife. I spent two years overseas and now I’m home … Continue reading

Letters of Love: My Wife, My Best Friend

Today’s letter of love comes from a husband who reads the blog occasionally, but knows that his wife really enjoys checking here everyday to read the articles and more. He decided, rather on the spur of the moment, to write a letter to his wife and he asked if I would publish it today, because it’s her birthday. So here it is and please accept my well-wishes for a very happy birthday. My Wife & My Best Friend Dear Diane, I hope you get to read this the morning it’s published. I’ve asked the blogger putting up these articles to … Continue reading

Your Child’s Birthday Celebration Can Be Simple and Fun

Before you plunk down big bucks for your child’s next birthday party consider this, kids just wanna have fun. Sunday was Tyler’s birthday and we had a great time celebrating without spending much money. We actually started celebrating on Friday and continued through Sunday night. I don’t think he would have had any more fun if we would have had a party with 20 screaming kids at Chuck E. Cheese’s. Of course, some kids will prefer the parties but it’s a good idea to ask your child what their preference is before you begin your party planning. For Tyler, being … Continue reading

Making Birthdays Special

In a few short weeks my baby will turn six. I have to admit I haven’t even started planning anything resembling a birthday party. With all the frenzy of our impending move back to New Orleans I haven’t really had the time. Not to mention his birthday falls not only on a Sunday but the Sunday after Thanksgiving. If we have a party it will have to take place on either Friday or Saturday. The other problem is having to decide if I should invite all the kids from his class or just his “best friends”. I know I need … Continue reading

Birthday Letters

It’s hard to believe that next month Tyler will celebrate his sixth birthday. I really wanted to do something special this year. He wants a party at Blu Rabbit’s Paradise (similar to Chuck E. Cheese). The problem is he’s in a class with 22 other kids. Frankly, I don’t think I can afford to pay for so many. But I don’t want to not invite anyone. I may not have to worry because hopefully by the time his birthday rolls around his class will have divided into two classes because they finally hired another teacher. If so, each class will … Continue reading

An Easy Way To Add New Information To Your Ancestry Family Tree

What do you get when you pair genealogy giant Ancestry.com with your network of living relatives on Facebook? Possibly a lot of good family history information.
