When my children were preschoolers and early elementary-aged, we did a lot of our cleaning together. Cleaning up the playroom or their bedrooms was something we did together so that I could teach them and model for them and I hoped to set a precedent for housekeeping expectations.

A couple years ago, it dawned on me that all the photos I had of my kids scattered around the house were baby pictures--cute snapshots and portraits of them when they were tiny, clean, and dressed by me.

I live in the Pacific Northwest--the climate where I live is relatively mild and since I am down in the valley, so to speak, we don't really get the snows and ice of more harsh winters. What we do get, however, is rain--we have been enduring days and days and days of rain, almost nonstop.

We all have different tastes when it comes to decorating. Getting a parent and a child to agree on how the child's room should be decorated is sometimes difficult. I tried as much as possible to enlist Tyler's input on how he wanted his room redecorated and some of his ideas were pretty wild.

As I approach my first month back in New Orleans, Tyler and I are still living in a hotel but hopefully we will be leaving at the end of the month. No one wants to stay in a hotel with a young child for an extended period of time but if you have to here are a few things to keep in mind.
