Kids, Swine Flu and Trick-or-Treating

My friend's young children will be missing out on trick-or-treating this year. Thank you swine flu. Actually, one of her kids has chicken pox and the other has swine flu-like symptoms, but has not yet been tested for H1N1.

I hate writing about this because I don't want people to think I am anti teacher. That couldn't be further from the truth. I think that most teachers are wonderful teachers who would give the shirt off their backs for their students. I would know, I was raised by one.

Our neighborhood pool closes for the season on Sunday. Typically, it closes on the day after Labor Day, but thanks to global warming we've had a run on sunny 80-degree days, and the powers that be delayed the pool's closure for a few weeks.
