Do All of Your Children's Names Begin With the Same Letter?

by Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger

The Duggar family didn't start the same first letter name trend, but they've certainly perfected it like no other.

For the past two decades, Michelle and Jim-Bob Duggar have paid homage to the 10th letter of the alphabet by giving each of their 18 children names that begin with J. There's Joshua, John-David, Jana, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jeremiah, Jedidiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer and 8-month-old Jordyn-Grace.

Kind of puts the Carter, Cole and Cailin combo to shame.

It's not unusual for parents with more than one child to have their kids share the first letter of their names. This is especially true if both mom and dad have names that begin with the same letter, like my cousin Tom and his wife Tina. No one was surprised when they named their kids Tanner and Tracy.

Other couples don't start off with the intention of continuing the trend, but after naming their firstborn Riley and their second Ryan, it almost becomes a crime not to name the next two Richelle and Regan.

Playing the baby name game is not easy.

Just ask Joshua Duggar and his new bride Anna. The oldest Duggar and his wife are expecting their first child in October, and they've already chosen a name for their yet-to-be born daughter. The stars of TLC's reality show "18 Kids and Counting" recently revealed they are naming their baby Mackynzie Renée.

Shortly, after Josh and Anna went public with their name choice fans flooded TLC's website asking if the young couple planned to follow Duggar family tradition of using the same first letter for all their kids' names.

Will "M" be the next generation of Duggar's special letter?

"We won't decide that now," Josh said. "We'll take one at a time."

What do you make of the same first letter name trend?
