Blogging Your Health: Pros and Cons

The other day, I was thinking long and hard about blogging your health: what to say, how much detail to give, who gets to read your posts. It’s a tricky issue, to say the least. Let’s look at some positives and negatives. The advantages of blogging your health can include: Ease. Make one post/update to your social networking site of choice and all your friends get the news at the same time. It’s quick and easy — and that’s good at a time when you may not have a lot of time and energy to devote to keeping everybody updated. … Continue reading

Julie, thanks for being here again today. Let’s shift the focus a little bit to the overall process of writing. You have quite a large family, and you’re a devoted mother. How do you balance all the aspects of your life? Balance is always a fine line, but my children always come first. Interestingly enough, however, I find that I am a more calm and … Continue reading

Your Friends May Change as Your Kids Grow Up

It is a lovely fantasy to imagine our children growing up with the same friends while we, as the parents, stay friends with those children’s parents. In reality, however, our children may go through different stages and phases and choose different peers and friends to share their journey and we parents change too. There may be some people with whom we trundle along the entire parenting path together, but for most of us, our friends will probably change as our children grow up and our overall lives change. Keep in mind that while your children are busy growing and developing, … Continue reading

“Park Your Car For A Penguin”

How’s that for a catchy tag line? One transportation group says if penguins could talk they would likely urge travelers to think about them and take a bus. “Motorcoaches are nice and don’t melt our ice.” Another great line. The hits keep coming in an eight-page educational booklet produced by the American Bus Association aimed at sending an important message to policy-makers. The pamphlet is titled “Save A Penguin. Take A Motorcoach.” According to leaders in the bus industry, by supporting motorcoach transportation, which gets about 184 miles per gallon and is one of the most efficient ways to travel, … Continue reading

In-Car GPS Systems

I don’t know where I would be without our car’s GPS navigation system. No doubt I’d probably be somewhere in Cap Cod, Massachusetts, despite the fact that I live in suburban/rural Pennsylvania and was only trying to get to the grocery store. You see, I am one of those rare people that is directionally challenged. Tell me to turn right at the gas station, and I’ll probably turn left at the convenience store. I read somewhere that birds may have some sort of organ or dedicated area of their brains that can sense the north pole and is dedicated to … Continue reading

Microsoft product support policies FAQ

Earlier I reported that official technical support will be ending for those who use Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, or Windows ME. According to Microsoft, these aging operating systems may expose users to security risks. Customers are encouraged to upgrade to a newer, more secure operating system. In light of this announcement, I’ve received questions from readers about Microsoft’s product support policies. Since the policies can be rather lengthy to discuss and difficult to understand, I want to only answer a few of the frequently asked questions. You always can check out the Microsoft Support Lifecycle Web site to find … Continue reading

The Climate Reality Project

“24 Hours of Reality will focus the world’s attention on the full truth, scope, scale and impact of the climate crisis. To remove the doubt. Reveal the deniers. And catalyze urgency around an issue that affects every one of us.” –Al Gore I was watching “50 Documentaries to See Before You Die” today because…well, I love documentaries. One of the top 50 was Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, which I have not seen yet. During a break, a commercial ran for The Climate Reality Project and I had to dig a bit deeper into that to see exactly what it … Continue reading

Homeschooling Groups and Resources in Colorado (Co – D)

To succeed in homeschooling, it is in your best interest to get involved with other homeschoolers. You should join a homeschool network or group near you. For this reason, I have decided to give a full listing of homeschooling groups throughout each state. Yes, there are other sites that list homeschool networks and support groups but none of are comprehensive. Some of them only list Christian, others only list those affiliated with them. I will attempt to list all of them. Colorado Academy of Independent Learners (CAIL) CAIL offers families the opportunity to be part of a private school, with … Continue reading

Firefox Download May Have Set a New World Record

What is your favorite browser? For many it is Firefox by Mozilla, a browser that I personally like. Apparently, many other users feel the same way that I do. Firefox fans are busy downloading the new Firefox 3 at a rate of 9,000 copies per minute! Firefox has many loyal fans who collectively attempted to set a world record for the most software downloads in a 24-hour period. The category is a new one for the Guinness Book of World Records, and it has to be verified, a process that could take up to a week. But for users, it … Continue reading
