It’s something that people first learn how to do when they are in preschool or kindergarten. Little kids can improve their fine motor skills by grasping a crayon and using it to color a picture. They find it rewarding to color a picture all by themselves and are … Continue reading

Snowing in Spring…Adjusting Our Frugal Plans

It is a few days past the official start of spring, and I am looking at a wintry wonderland just outside my window. The salt trucks and plows have been by, but they have to be diligent. Already the driveway and roads are covered with white. Despite about three inches of snow on the ground already and more to come, schools are not closed today. There is no excessive wind, and we are used to snow. The weather has been wrecking some havoc with our spring frugal plans. We can’t get started on our garden, and may lose out on … Continue reading

Parenting When You Just Don’t Feel Well

I got very little sleep last night, and the sleep that I did get was less than restful. My little Logan had a rough night. He was restless and woke up in tears. I’m still not sure exactly what was bothering him, but he clearly wasn’t feeling very well. I tended to him throughout the night, but his restlessness in turn became my restlessness which made for a bit of a long night in the Mommy department. I woke up exhausted with the beginnings of a migraine and knew that it was going to be a very long day. I … Continue reading

Teens Commit Violent Acts Just for Fun

When I was a teenager, some of the things we did “just for fun” were pretty typical. I won’t go into details but it usually consisted of activities my parents wouldn’t have approved of. However, it never involved hurting someone. So it’s very hard for me to understand how brutally beating someone is “fun.” That was the reason six teenagers in Pennsylvania were arrested last week. They attacked a 48-year-old woman who was sitting on her stoop “just for fun.” Imagine being the one to ask them why they did it. Not because they were high on drugs. Not because … Continue reading

You Just Never Know

It has been one of “those” mornings. My youngest son woke up late and put the rest of the family behind. When we should have been walking out the door, same child was trying to quick finish something for school. Because we left later, there was much more traffic at the school to deal with. That meant more opportunities to be cut off, passed or to wait in the very long drop off line. Needless to say this also resulted in my day getting set back. You would think my mood would be sour. Normally my daughter would have been … Continue reading

About a month ago, I accidentally came across a genealogy website called GenealogyBank. Ever since then, I get occasional email from them that tells me about resources that have been added to their website. They recently added 25 million new records. Pop star Justin Bieber recently had an interview in Rolling Stone Magazine. In the interview, he made a comment that indicated that he thought that he was “Inuit or something”. This comment, coupled with his remark that his heritage could get him “free gas”, is making its way across the internet. Justin Bieber was interviewed by Rolling Stone Magazine. His photo is on the cover of the issue, next to wording that indicates that he has recently had his eighteenth birthday. I haven’t read the interview itself. My best guess was that the decision to interview Bieber had something to … Continue reading
