Billy Ray Scared for Miley

The Cyrus family seems to be imploding before our very eyes. First came the news that dad Billy Ray and mom had filed for divorce. Then, I posted a blog about Miley Cyrus being caught on film smoking the herb (salvia) from a bong. At the time, her dad Billy Ray Cyrus said he was sorry the video was released and felt like things were out of his control. He also refused to attend Miley’s 18th birthday party because it was at a bar. The icing on the cake appears to be Billy Ray’s recent interview with GQ. He said … Continue reading

Billy Ray Cyrus Blames “Hannah Montana” for Destroying Family

So country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, father of Miley Cyrus has stated that “Hannah Montana” is responsible for the demise of his family. Come on…seriously? He is going to put all the blame on a television show that he himself was part of? Does he really not think he played a role in this? Being a famous man he most certainly knew what he was in for and the potential that fame could do to his daughter. Now that Miley has turned 18 she has begun to do the very things I always expected would happen. It is almost a … Continue reading

Miley Cyrus on Video Smoking Salvia

While I am not entirely surprised, I was still disappointed to see a recent video of Miley Cyrus “tripping out” on salvia, a legal marijuana-like plant. It seems that yet another child star has fallen from grace. Should anyone really be surprised? I hate to sound pessimistic but every time a new teen idol rises, I wonder when the downfall will hit. I am waiting for the likes of Justin Bieber and others to do the same. I would like to have a more positive outlook but it seems that fame and fortune is just too much for these young … Continue reading

Miley, Miley, Miley!

In case you didn’t know, teen Disney megastar Miley Cyrus turned 18 on November 23, but 2010 has not been the greatest of years for her. Oh monetarily, Miley is rolling in the dough. Forbes listed her as #13 on their yearly Celebrity 100 and she made about 80 bazillion dollars this past year. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but this kid is everywhere – trust me, she is loaded. Yet, 2010 has been rough on her personal life. First, TMZ released a video of Miley giving her The Last Song producer Adam Shankman a lap dance. Daddy Billy Ray … Continue reading

Abuse of Everyday Products

When my children were younger, I always made sure all medicines were locked up and in a spot they couldn’t be reached. Now that they are teens, it isn’t a concern…but apparently it should be. A new study just came out that says teens are starting to abuse over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. We’re not talking prescription medication (which of course, can also be a problem) but everyday medicines such as decongestants and cough syrup. Hey, it’s easy access. And it’s becoming more common because of the increased efforts to keep illicit drugs out of their hands. The study also indicates that … Continue reading

Knowledge Is Power When It Comes to Drugs

It used to be that it was easy to know the types of drugs that teens might try. But gone are the days of that. Now you hear about kids getting high on everyday products. Or you hear about a new substance that while it isn’t illegal, it can still produce the same effects such as may be found in marijuana. So for parents it can be difficult to keep up on the latest trends. In the past I have blogged about some of these things—including spice, digital drugs and salvia. But as much as I try to keep updated, … Continue reading

The Wisdom of Justin Bieber?

So Justin Bieber has been doing more than just singing, he has been offering his thoughts on some pretty controversial subject matter. In the newest Rolling Stone issue he stated that when it comes to sex, you should wait until you are “in love.” By the way, apparently he is dating another teen star, Selena Gomez. I just thought you should know. Bieber also touched on politics when he mentioned how differently healthcare in Canada is…or should I say how much better it is. He jokingly called our country “evil” and made mention of our astronomical medical bills. His views … Continue reading

Marijuana Use in 8th Graders on Rise

I just read an article on NIH News that marijuana use is increasing amongst teens. While that is bad enough, it is especially disheartening to hear that it is on a greater increase with 8th graders. According to the 2010 Monitoring the Future Survey (MTF), the percentage of 8th graders smoking pot is up to 16%, compared to 14.5% last year. In addition the survey indicated that in all grades the use of marijuana on a daily basis has also gone up. It doesn’t help when we see the likes of Miley Cyrus, who was recently puffing away on a … Continue reading
