Pre-Tween Crushes

I used to think my dream guy was an amalgamation of Michael J. Fox, Jason Bateman and JFK Jr., but now I think he is more a mixture of Anderson Cooper, Richard Engel and Dean Cain… though I could be wrong. Still, a crush is a crush, and the feelings I had for Jason Bateman when I was in junior high school are as real as the ones swooning Justin Bieber fans have today. Yes, I kissed a life-size cut-out of “The Hogan Family” star and drooled over magazine photos of the former president’s hunk of a son; however, I … Continue reading

Mommy Crushes

Grown women go gaga over 16-year-old pop star Justin Bieber… there’s just something inherently wrong with that scenario. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Did you see the episode of “Saturday Night Live” where Tina Fey played a high school teacher smitten with a student played by Bieber? “I don’t know whether I want to marry him or put him in a stroller and push him around the mall,’’ Fey’s character ponders in a dreamy baby girl voice-over. So much for motherhood being connected with adulthood… and completely disconnected to youth culture. These days moms are getting … Continue reading

Embellishing Mother’s Day Layouts

One of the sweetest Mother’s Day gifts I ever received was a scrapbook layout featuring various pictures of my daughter and a slew of her homemade art projects. My sister-in-law did an amazing job creating a photo collage using my daughter’s artsy masterpieces to embellish the page, along with several cute quotes detailing why she loves her mommy so much. Sniff, sniff. I love that layout. Fortunately, the page design is easy to duplicate for a mother of one or many. The collage requires at least five stand-out photos which can be placed in a random shape. You could also … Continue reading

Kid’s Choice Awards 2012

One thing is always true about Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards – you know someone is going to get slimed before the night is over. This year, Will Smith, the show’s host, promised that “no one was safe from the slime” – even if you are a beautiful Academy Award winning actresses. At the 2012 Kid’s Choice awards, Halle Berry was the first one to get slimed. Fortunately for all of us, she is just as beautiful in green slime as ever. Another that got slimed in the 25th year of the awards was “Glee” favorite Christ Colfer. He got it … Continue reading

The Look of Love

What’s your look of love? Does it include a dreamy smile, glazed over eyes and raised eyebrows? That’s what my face looks like whenever I see Dean Cain, Jason Bateman, Anderson Cooper (I know) and Ryan Reynolds… with their shirts off. I prefer not to think about the looks they’d give me if it they were to catch me looking at them. Why ruin a good dream? With Valentine’s Day right around the corner many shutterbugs are trying to capture a frame worthy look of love to gift to their sweetheart. Others skip the surprise element all together and strike … Continue reading

Parents and Oscar Night

You know you are a parent when you’ve only seen one of the Academy Awards’ 10 best-picture nominees… Let’s hear it for Toy Story 3! What does it say about me that I’ve seen Toy Story 3 four times in the movie theater and about 1000 times at home after my 6-year-old was gifted with the DVD version at Christmas? There was a time when I would plan my entire day around the Oscars. I’d clear my calendar, invite friends over, order in pizza or Chinese, and then refuse to answer the phone while I drooled over my favorite Hollywood … Continue reading

Unless you are willing to face kidnapping charges, the likelihood of having Justin Bieber serenade your tween in her bedroom on Christmas is slim to none. Fortunately, there is a way you can get the 16-year-old singing sensation to make an appearance under your Christmas tree this holiday season—-kind of. Thanks to HarperCollins, your Bieber Fever fanatic can wrap her arms around the pop star’s first book, Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story. Kids’ Meals for Parents

I’ve been known to down a Happy Meal or two since becoming a mom. However, consuming leftover fries and soggy chicken nuggets with mini teeth marks dotting the surface, has more to do with not wanting to waste food and money than with a personal preference for fast food kids’ meals. Quite honestly, I despise kids’ meals. And I could care less about Twilight. Nice to finally get that off my chest. So how is it that I am able to confess my distaste for two seemingly unrelated pop culture phenomenons in a single blog? Five words: Burger King Eclipse … Continue reading

Silly Bandz for Parents

While I often drool over her fab wardrobe and to-die-for bank account, there is something I absolutely, positively don’t envy about mega-celeb parent Sarah Jessica Parker—-her obsession for Silly Bandz. Talk about a fashion faux pas. What’s a good-looking, highly successful, Hollywood heavyweight like SJP trying to prove by appearing in public wearing wacky neon-colored plastic bracelets that are a must-have for the 10 and under crowd? Apparently, the super celeb mom has a son who is part of the Silly Bandz cult, so now she too is covering her forearms with the cheap rubber band bracelets shaped like zoo … Continue reading
