Moms Behaving Badly

It’s not a good idea to drive around with your child attached to the roof of your vehicle. In other news, the sky is blue. File this one under: Stupid parental decisions, and give Jackie Denise Knott a prize (see: jail time) for personifying the definition of a word that Webster has yet to list: CLUELESSNESS! The Alabama mom allegedly endangered her 13-year-old daughter’s life, just so she could get a large cardboard box home in one piece. We’ve all been there before, right? We purchase an empty cardboard box at the store, but when we get out to the … Continue reading

Do You Judge Other Moms?

We’ve all done it. We’re out in public and someone else’s wild child is pitching a fit. He wants a candy bar, mom says no and he tantrums. So she gives him the candy bar or buys him the toy. We may not say anything but in my mind I’m always thinking, “See, she shouldn’t give in and that’s why he’s throwing a fit. He knows it works.” While I personally wouldn’t vocalize my opinions about someone else’s kids’ behavior, many are all to willing to give their opinions–especially the older set. This happened to me recently which is why … Continue reading

Dessert for Breakfast

Think of the most heinous accusation that has ever been hurled in your direction. If you are a parent, you likely shudder at the thought of being categorized with these derelict moms and dads, who shouldn’t even be free to walk the earth, let alone be allowed to influence a young life. While you may refrain from using an electronic dog collar to shock your young children as a means of punishment and entertainment, attaching your 13-year-old to the roof of the family van to hold down a large cardboard box, knowingly poison your kids in an effort to score … Continue reading

Parenting Children Who Have ADHD is Stressful

A study reveals that parents of children who have ADHD feel stressed when their child is not behaving appropriately, or is behaving badly. This roller coaster of stress is more intense than the stress that parents of neurotypical children experience in response to occasional bad behavior. This finding reveals a lot about what might help families of kids with ADHD to cope. ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is something that affects both children and adults. One doesn’t necessarily “grow out of” having ADHD. It is possible, though, that a child will learn how to manage the symptoms of ADHD … Continue reading

Can Parents Ever Get It Right?

Complain, complain, complain. No, I’m not referring to my kindergartner, who has the ability to find quirks in the most perfect situations. I’m referring to so-called childhood “experts,” who never seem to have anything positive to say about parents these days. Granted, there are a ton of maniacal moms and bad dads roaming the planet, who deserve to be chastised, but I know for a fact that the number of civilized parents, who are just trying to raise decent human beings, far outnumber their crazy counterparts. So why is it that “experts” in the parenting world feel the need to … Continue reading

What Type Of Newborn Mother Are You?

Whether you’re a veteran mom or about to give birth to your first child, you probably have opinions about life with a newborn. My husband worked in a church last year, so we built close relationships with many people. Everyone in the church felt a close connection to us, even if we didn’t know them very well. It was wonderful. We found out I was expecting a baby in the fall, and as the due date approached, I got an increasing amount of comments from people that made me very nervous. They were comments like, “What hospital are you delivering … Continue reading

Poor Parenting Or Just Evil?

People do stupid things… and parents are no exception. However, there comes a point when you wonder where the line is drawn between poor parenting techniques and seriously deranged moms and dads who are inherently evil. My fellow blogger Andrea and I have written dozens of posts that feature parents who exhibit questionable behavior when it comes to raising their offspring. In some cases it’s hard to tell if their actions—-many of which fuel news headlines and land them in jail-—are the result of in-the-moment bad parenting decision making, stupidity, selfishness or a combination of all three. Case in point: … Continue reading
