Oops, She Did It Again! Spears Is Mom of Two!

The cat is official out of the bag, after weeks of mere speculation, rumor and gossip. Britney Spears is pregnant with her second child. Yes, folks, you read that right. Another baby Spears is on its way. Spears announced her bun in the oven last night on The Late Show with David Letterman. Celebrity gossip rags have bounced this rumor around for weeks. What is more shocking than Spears' impending desire to juggle two kids on her lap in the front seat of her car while speeding away from those adoring paparazzi? The fact that we care at all!

Well, maybe we don't really care so much as feel like deer caught in the headlights. Or a more appropriate analogy would be gawkers at the scene of a collision. We can't help but stare at the child-star-turned-pop-diva-turned-young-Mom-turned-CPS-case as she drags yet another innocent child into her life and headlines.

In case you are immune to the scene-of-a-collision status that the rest of us have fallen victim to, here's a brief recap:

Spears married dance Kevin Federline in the fall of 2004. A year later, the couple announced the birth of their first child, Sean Preston. In early 2006, Spears was photographed speeding off with her infant on her lap, prompting visit number one from CPS. Spears explained that the paparazzi had been hassling her so intensely that she sped off to escape them, without time for infant seats. Ok, maybe. But a normal parent....ok, who are we kidding? Normal parents don't routinely confront paparazzi. A normal celebrity parent might speed a few hundred feet off, just far enough to get the kid into his safety seat and go home. THAT I would understand. Did she ever pull over? She's never said so, if that is the case. A few months later CPS knocked on the door again. This time after a report that baby Sean Preston had fallen from his highchair and hit his head. Spears and Federline were cleared of any wrong doing on both occasions.

It does appear, however, that Spears is having a bit more trouble than she probably expected balancing the needs of an infant with her own lifestyle. Most people, even those in the spotlight, just don't have CPS knocking on their door twice in the first six months of their child's life. But being the naively optimistic kids that they are, they are diving, head-first, into parenthood with two. Because one baby has been so successful for them, right?

Well, I do wish Spears' children all the best of luck. I sincerely believe they will need it! And, either way, I'm sure we'll all hear every last detail along the way as we can't take our eyes off the collision on the side of the road.
