Halloween-Themed Weight Loss Plan for Brave Parents

Have you seen Hershey’s newest Halloween treat? The Screme Egg is a twist on the chocolate giant’s popular Easter sweet, the Cadbury Creme Egg. The shape is the same, as is the egg’s white filling, but the Halloween version features a green yolk-like center instead of yellow. If that doesn’t make you scream, perhaps the nutritional value will. A single Screme Egg contains 150 calories and five grams of fat. While that may not seem like a frightening amount, consider that the average adult can fit roughly four of the eggs in his or her mouth at one time. Add … Continue reading

Parents and TMI

Want to know what happens when parents can’t control their loose lips? Turn on the TV or surf the World Wide Web and see the backlash Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer Ryan Lochte’s mom–a.k.a. the queen of loose lips–is enduring right now. Not that she cares. But, hey, I do… and so do millions of others of parents who are often tempted to spill TOO MUCH INFO about their offspring with family, friends, and (sometimes) perfect strangers. Shortly after Ryan made history at the London Olympics, Ike Lochte told NBC that her golden boy gets around… and not just in the … Continue reading

Hope for Parents of Bed-Wetters

My daughter is going to kill me for sharing this… However, in the spirit of helping others… My name is Michele and I used to parent a child who wet her bed well after she was potty trained. I silently cursed having to change soaked bed sheets in the middle of the night, and then again in the morning. I was peeved that my school-aged child couldn’t control her bladder. I worried that she would be forced to have surgery. I wondered what I was doing wrong. Then, after months of nagging suspicions and misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis, we finally met … Continue reading

We’re all busy during the holiday season. There are parties to host and attend, presents to wrap and unwrap, shopping, cooking, cleaning and procreating. Yes, you read correctly. According to a new study, a large number of parents are busy getting busy between the sheets during the height of the holiday season. Researchers at the University of Texas found that most babies born in the United States are conceived between Christmas and New Year’s Day. There Could Be a Link Between Acetaminophen and Asthma

There have been numerous studies that suggest that there could be a link between acetaminophen and the development of asthma symptoms in children. This is a new idea, that hasn’t been considered until recently. On the other hand, there are some reasons why this connection might not as accurate as it seems. Children who have asthma could have an attack when exposed to a numerous amount of triggers. Humidity can increase the risk of an asthma attack, and so can certain allergens. Exposure to cigarette smoke can also cause an asthma attack, it can also be triggered by upper respiratory … Continue reading

Social Media Helping Parents

I’m not a huge fan of Twitter. In fact, I am not a fan at all. Don’t hate. I’m not in the I’m-above-using-social-media camp; rather, I simply don’t have the time or means to share 140-character random thoughts with legions of tweeps. Plus, I doubt anyone cares whether or not I watching a swarm of locust fly by my window or that I just devoured four courses and a bottle of wine at a fancy French restaurant and I’m headed toward unconsciousness. Though, I could be wrong. Still, according to a new report, a huge chunk of Twitter fans are … Continue reading

Parents: There’s Power in Numbers

Subtitle: Katy Gets Kicked Off “Sesame Street” Last week I shared my enthusiasm for Sesame Street’s latest round of celebrity guests. Among them my childhood crush, Jason (yes, I think he’s hot) Bateman, Colin Farrell and Katy Perry. An eclectic mix for sure. Well, it was. For all of you moms and dads who have been living under a… mountain of dirty laundry, dishes and your kids’ strewn toys, I’ve got some bad or good news: Katy Perry will no longer be joining Elmo in the hood. Thanks to parental outrage that took the form of letter campaigns, emails and … Continue reading

TMI Tweets

A lot has been said about the moral corruption of kids who think sexting is an innocent game to be played on social media sites. But, what about the parents of those kids? What role do they play? What example do they set when they too are texting minute details about their own personal lives? When Twitter was first launched in 2006, I doubt anyone could image the impact it would have on family relations. After all, who would have thought that 140-character tweets could change the way a planet full of people communicate. These days millions of people, parents … Continue reading
