Setting Playstation 3 Parental Controls

The Sony Playstation 3 has got to be one of the best video game systems out there, especially with its coveted Blu-Ray DVD player. Unfortunately, though, out of all of the popular video game systems, the Playstation 3 is probably the one with the most violent and bloody games. There are probably only a handful of games that are appropriate for children. If you do have young children (or even older ones) in your home, you should probably set up the parental controls for your system. Here is how to do just that. Unlike the other popular video game systems, … Continue reading

Trying to Keep Video Games in Perspective

These past couple weeks there have been all sorts of reports in the news about whether or not excessive computer and video game playing is considered an addiction. I have to admit that there have definitely been times when I’ve worried that one of my kids IS addicted–whether it is to a computer game, My Space, television, or a video game! I have gotten pretty darn crabby when someone seems to be too focused on any one thing and neglected every thing else. But, I’ve also found that with my kids, what they are “totally into” for a week or … Continue reading

Guarding Your Children Against Negative Media Influences

One of the most important things we can do for our children is to guard them against the influences of the media. As I say this I realize that not all media will have a negative affect on children. In no way am I saying that we should cut our children completely off from the media in general. Yet it is important that we are responsible about what we allow our children to watch, and that we teach them to make responsible choices as they grow older. In all honesty, my husband and I are the most liberal among our … Continue reading

My seven-year-old nephew loves to play this game and plays it at his father’s house a great deal. We can limit his game time when he is … Continue reading

Video game violence is a hot topic in today’s news and parent’s everywhere are tuning in with questions and concerns of their own. World of Warcraft – Do You Know What PvP is?

World of Warcraft is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game that transports the players into a gaming world where they can interact with other players, take on quests and enjoy skill crafting, problem solving and more. My nephew, now 7, loves to play this game. Initially, his father introduced him to it in order to encourage reading. My nephew loves video games and he could read, but he often resisted doing it. His father thought that the game would be a great way to get him to read because the interface requires reading skill in order to accept and understand … Continue reading
