Kids’ Meals for Parents

I’ve been known to down a Happy Meal or two since becoming a mom. However, consuming leftover fries and soggy chicken nuggets with mini teeth marks dotting the surface, has more to do with not wanting to waste food and money than with a personal preference for fast food kids’ meals. Quite honestly, I despise kids’ meals. And I could care less about Twilight. Nice to finally get that off my chest. So how is it that I am able to confess my distaste for two seemingly unrelated pop culture phenomenons in a single blog? Five words: Burger King Eclipse … Continue reading

Silly Bandz for Parents

While I often drool over her fab wardrobe and to-die-for bank account, there is something I absolutely, positively don’t envy about mega-celeb parent Sarah Jessica Parker—-her obsession for Silly Bandz. Talk about a fashion faux pas. What’s a good-looking, highly successful, Hollywood heavyweight like SJP trying to prove by appearing in public wearing wacky neon-colored plastic bracelets that are a must-have for the 10 and under crowd? Apparently, the super celeb mom has a son who is part of the Silly Bandz cult, so now she too is covering her forearms with the cheap rubber band bracelets shaped like zoo … Continue reading

Do You Play With Your Kids’ Toys?

When they don’t force you to. Alone. Do you secretly swipe your son’s Game Boy or your daughter’s Easy-Bake Oven and go to town while taking a trip down memory lane? My 6-year-old has a container of Lincoln Logs that I play with more than she does. I don’t play with them by myself; however, she often insists that I create shops and restaurants with the notched miniature logs, so she has a place to take her doll house pals to shop and dine. Of course, if I did swipe the play logs and constructed architectural masterpieces on my own, … Continue reading

Here are some ways to make the day easier on your stress level while still maintaining the fun for your little one. Diabetes * Rather than trick-or-treating, host a Halloween party at which you can control the treats that are available. You can include sugar-free candy and treats in addition to fun items like Halloween stickers, silly bandz, and toys. * Keep the portion of candy that your child eats to a reasonable portion size and incorporate it into meals and … Continue reading

Rich Kids

I’ve known many a child who has rolled up on the last day of school in a limousine. No, we don’t live in Beverly Hills, Manhattan, or in the swanky northern suburbs of Chicago. We actually reside in a semi-rural area of the Upper Midwest, yet seeing kids ride to school in limos on special occasions is not an unusual sight. Kids here might not have embraced the whole Silly Bandz trend, but the joy of cruising to class in a pimped out ride is not lost on country mice. Though, riding to summer camp in a helicopter, may be … Continue reading
