Dad in Denial

Can money really solve your biggest problems? A billionaire dad is really, really hoping it can. Cecil Chao is so livid that his smoking hot daughter, Gigi, recently wed her same-sex partner that he is offering a $65 million “marriage bounty” to any man who can get her to change her sexual preference. In other words, the 76-year-old Hong Kong business tycoon is in complete denial that his darling daughter is a lesbian and is willing to pay a pretty penny to any guy who can turn her straight. Denial is not an unusual parental reaction upon learning about a … Continue reading

Extreme Parenting or Extreme Stupidity?

No parent takes delight in seeing his child fail at school. However, most moms and dads don’t try to disown their kid when she flunks a test. It’s called being reasonable, rational… sane. Sadly, some parents don’t exercise these gifts and you end up with a story like Tuan Huynh’s. The Pennsylvania dad has been court ordered to move out of his home until he completes a mandatory parenting class, as well as 100 hours of community service. Huynh’s punishment is a result of abandoning his 16-year-old daughter outside of a mall because she received a failing grade at school. … Continue reading

Record-Breaking Baby Daddy

If guys could get pregnant, I’m pretty sure Desmond Hatchett wouldn’t be making headlines for fathering 30 children. And I’m not talking about Duggar-style procreating. The infamous sperm donor, whom Dr. Drew calls a “menace to society,” has 30 children by 11 different women. Hatchett briefly caught the eye of the media back in 2009 when his notorious spawning tally stood at 21 children. Now, the 33-year-old baby daddy is back in the news, and it’s not because he has since added nine more children to his brood. According to reports, Hatchett is begging the state of Tennessee to help … Continue reading

Selfish Is as Selfish Does

Just when you thought that parents were realizing that it’s not such a good idea to leave young kids alone in a car while they take care of business elsewhere, a story like this makes national headlines: BREAKING NEWS OUT OF KATY, TEXAS: SELFISH FATHER CHOOSES GUN SHOPPING OVER KID WATCHING That’s my title, and I unequivocally stand by the use of “selfish.” Here’s why. According to Texas law enforcement, a dad is being investigated by Child Protective Services after leaving his two young children in the backseat of a hot van while he spent in hour in an air … Continue reading

Kevin Smith Owes Tiger Woods

What do you do? You are a celebrity and you are involved in a scandal. Maybe you smacked around some paparazzi at the airport. Maybe you had a wardrobe malfunction. Or, maybe you were told you were too fat to fit into one seat in the airplane and talked about it. Such is the story of Kevin Smith. In February 2010, actor/writer/producer Smith found himself on a Southwest flight to Burbank. He usually bought two tickets, but this time, got in on an earlier flight with only one seat. Much to his dismay, he was asked to leave before the … Continue reading

What Makes Your Kid Happy?

I heart Dr. Drew. Father figure to the dozens of teen moms exploited (I mean, profiled) on MTV’s “16 and Pregnant,” “Celebrity Rehab” guru, 30-year radio advice veteran, and now the host of his own show on HLN, Dr. Drew Pinsky is almost as busy as work-at-home mom. Almost. Actually, the dad to 18-year-old triplets is a champion of moms everywhere, as he recently stated on his primetime “news and views” show. I’m not the least bit surprised that Dr. Drew is publicly praising moms given that his wife was left to handle much of the child-rearing of their three … Continue reading

No-Win Situation

Dan Dorn won’t get his wish after all, but then again neither will his ex-wife… or their three children. A judge finally made a decision in the case of the brain damaged mother whose parents were looking to secure more visitation time for her with the triplets she gave birth to in 2006. According to ABC News, Judge Fredrick Shaller ordered that Abbie Dorn will be allowed five-day visits once a year, where her children will travel to see her for three hours each day at her parents’ home in South Carolina. During the visits only Dorn, her ex-husband Dan … Continue reading

Are You Married to a Bad Dad?

To answer the question we must first define “bad.” Are we talking Alec Baldwin bad, Jon Gosselin bad, Mel Gibson bad or “Slumdog Millionaire” dad bad? Or, do you lump your child’s co-parent into the “bad” category due to his lack of participation in the daily upbringing of the child he clearly participated in conceiving? If you selected the latter, then you might be interested in the results of a new study that examines the gap between genders when it comes to “unpaid economy” or what us lay folk refer to as the daily grind of housework and childcare. The … Continue reading

Reluctant Parents?

The other day I was dashing through the aisles of the grocery store desperately trying to find peanut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, yet highly nutritional individually wrapped snacks, which tasted good enough that the kids in my daughter’s first grade class would actually eat them. I narrowed my search to the Fruit Roll-Up/Gushers/Fruit by the Foot aisle and stood alongside a little boy who was busily scaling shelves. His parents were no where in sight. After five minuets of watching the kid scatter fruit snack boxes around like they were mini cardboard blocks I softly asked him if he knew where his … Continue reading

Mom Robs Bank for Kids

Well, something like that. How many times have you considered robbing a bank in order to score some fast cash? Most of us joke about committing the federal offense at some time or another, especially during tough economic times. Of course, a joke is just that; something to laugh about. I’m sure most people don’t actually make serious plans to carry out the risky and illegal job. That goes double for parents. After all, parents are supposed to be role models for their kids and what kind of example are you setting if you are rotting in a jail cell … Continue reading
