The Dreaded Car Nap

I’m sure there are millions of Moms, like me, that would agree that the nap your child takes in the car can ruin your entire day. I am a schedule abiding Mom. We do meal time, and nap time like clock work around here. It makes my life predictable, and it works like a charm on my kids. The only exception is when we are traveling, or have company that we don’t follow things so closely. But, your life can begin to feel a little constricted when you have an infant that takes 2, sometimes 3 naps a day. How … Continue reading

I Hope They Call Me On a Mission

I served a full-time mission from 1998-2000. It was a wonderful 18 months of my life. Some days it seems so long ago, and other days, I wish I was back there with nothing to worry about except whether or not I was doing what the Lord wanted, good enough to please Him. For anyone that does not understand why Mormons go on missions, it’s hard to explain. But, I can try and explain why I did. In fact, I’m speaking to the Young Women tonight at church regarding this very topic. In our church, mormon missionaries are not paid. … Continue reading

You Are Now Entering the World of Slings!

When my daughter was born, she wanted to be held every minute. Any removal of baby from hip led to major insistence on her part that she wanted me to pick her up again, and do it NOW, please. I knew that when she got older, I’d crave this connection again, but boy, at the time it was a bit overwhelming! Of even those of us who aren’t fond of hugs get rather gooey over our own little ones. So I held her. And I held her. My arms got sore. My wrists started to hurt. I got a traditional … Continue reading

Sometimes I wish I Could Still Keep them Close

I was a baby-wearer—even though it was really just the beginning of the current “attachment parenting” movement when my children were babies nearly two decades ago, and I did not have a rebozo or other sort of wrap, I still carried my babies first in the “front pack” as I called it and then on my back for the first year or so of their lives. In fact, I quickly learned that with a newborn and young infant, wearing them was so much easier, kept them happier, and made it possible for me to tend to other children and duties … Continue reading

Each Case is So Different

One of the most frustrating things I’d hear after asking how long it takes to adopt was, “It depends; each case is so different.” I didn’t get why this answer kept getting thrown at me since I knew a bit about the Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997 (ASFA) which provides somewhat of a time line for cases to be processed. I knew each case was different, but I’d hoped to hear more about deadlines and statistics for adoptions in our state. Since 2001 I have been involved with a few different state adoption support groups. I find myself … Continue reading

Scrapbooking the Obscure

My mind goes faster than most. I’m not exactly sure why that is, but sometimes I feel too creative, if that’s possible. Ideas and plans come pouring out of me at such a rapid rate I cannot possibly keep up. I can find solutions to almost any problem by using my creativity. Although there are times that I wish my mind would just rest. Just stay calm and not think about anything, there are still other times where I am thankful for that creativity and the constant movement my brain seems to be doing. Allowing my creativity to just flow … Continue reading
