Making Valentines Day Special For Your Children

Valentines Day is a wonderful holiday when you have somebody to love. As parents we all do: our children! Valentines is a great day to let your child know how much you love them. Especially if your child has been difficult to deal with lately, because when you serve those you love, you love them more.

Here are some ideas of things you can do on Valentines Day to make the day extra special and show your child or children (even if they're grown) how much you care.

Make a special breakfast. Make pancakes or waffles and use a heart cookie cutter to make them into hearts. If you are crunched for time use frozen waffles or toast. Spread with strawberry jam instead of syrup.

Make heart muffins or cupcakes by putting a marble in between the pan and the wrapper. Serve for breakfast or as an after school snack.

Make heart sandwiches by cutting them with a heart cookie cutter. Then send a valentine in your child's lunch.

Tape hearts all over your child's bedroom door. Write things that you particularly value or appreciate about your child on the hearts.

Buy (most pizza stores offer this on Valentines Day) or make a heart shaped pizza for dinner.

At the dinner table, or before bed, take turns telling each other the reasons you love each member of the family.

Write down memories of your child that you especially cherish and give them to your child.

Call your child if they have a cell phone or are away from home. You can also e-mail or send an e-card.

Give your child a hug and/or a kiss and tell them, "I love you!"?

Surprise them with their favorite treat.

Pick them up from school and take them out for ice cream.

Make heart sugar cookies and decorate them together. You might want to spread the love and take cookies to someone you know that is alone.

Send your child a valentine package or card in the mail, even if they live at home. Everyone loves mail.
