Dinner In a Hurry, Your Way

I want out of the kitchen, the only problem is I love to eat. Also, there’s that whole starving to death thing if you don’t eat. Living in Utah there are so many wonderful things to see and do outdoors, I just need to figure out how to get out there. Making dinner can be the biggest time consumer of my evening. If I forgot to thaw something or I have nothing quick on hand, I just pick up the phone, pizza, sandwiches, or Chinese, all on speed dial. This is bad for both my wallet and my waist. There … Continue reading

No Time For Dinner Together

I really need to cook more. Hailey and I have such different schedules that it makes it hard for us to sit down to meals together during the week. I just don’t have the motivation to fix a full meal when it’s just me so I usually grab a sandwich. Hailey gets home close to 8pm and because I haven’t cooked dinner, she grabs a sandwich as well. This really isn’t good for either one of us. I’ve been doing a lot of research about how to make dinner work with different schedules. If I were younger I would just … Continue reading

Have Dinner As A Family

There never seem to be enough hours in the day, especially when you are a single parent and everything is your responsibility. Sometimes it feels like the only time I stop moving is when I crawl in to bed at night. Then the only thing still moving is my mind, going over all the things that need to be done the next day. All too often I find that the time I spend with Hailey I am doing something else so I’m distracted and not giving her my full attention. As single parents it’s important to slow down and give … Continue reading

A bit of spritual motivation at the dinner table.

“Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV I want to start out by saying that Families.com is not a Christian website. Families.com supports families of all sizes, colors and set of beliefs. Families.com welcomes all families and individuals to partake in their site and discussion boards. The weight loss section is not affiliated with the Christian section of this website. So what is with the verse and spiritual motivation? In my time writing for Families.com, I have received several messages and emails from readers. I am … Continue reading

New to Food Blog but Years in the Kitchen

I’ve been cooking since I was around seven or eight years old and let me tell you that’s too many years ago to want to count them. I had a mother who encouraged me in the kitchen. Back then I cooked mostly cakes and sweet things but by my early teens, I regularly cooked meals for the family. So I guess by now I ought to have found out a bit about food to pass on. I will be writing 6 food blogs per month. For those who don’t know me, I might be new to the food blog but … Continue reading

The Death of Family Dinners

My daughter spent the day with her best friend M last week. The two girls are inseparable, which is why I wasn’t surprised when M’s mom called to ask if my daughter could stay for dinner. I agreed and we set up a pick up time for later that evening. I ended up getting to M’s house early and was concerned that I would be interrupting dinner (or at least clean up time), but to my surprise as soon as I got out of my car the girls came barreling toward me to show off their freshly painted nails. M’s … Continue reading

Exploring the International Disney Parks

Disney World and Disneyland aren’t exactly the same, so why should the other Disney parks abroad be similar?  If you ever get the chance to travel to an international Disney park, perhaps to Tokyo Disneyland for the new D23 convention this fall, you might notice a few differences from the domestic ones.  BBC Travel did a report on some of the unique things that set the international parks apart. One of the most obvious differences is the food.  While you can get some international food at Disney Parks, especially at Epcot at Disney World, it’s still not standard.  Obviously, that’s … Continue reading
