“Bullwinkle” Writer Dies

Growing up, my after school routine consisted of carefully hanging my school uniform back in the closet, eating a snack, and watching an hour of cartoons on television. My mother allowed us to watch exactly an hour of TV prior to cracking the whip and making me (and my three brothers) complete our homework. When we were younger my brothers and I didn’t agree on much, but when it came to after-school cartoons there was never an issue our one and only TV would be tuned into “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.” Sadly, I recently learned Chris Hayward, the Emmy-winning … Continue reading

When a TV Hero Dies

This morning my family and I were in the living room enjoying our breakfast when the news reported that Steve Irwin, better known to millions as The Crocodile Hunter, had died. The accident occurred while he was filming a documentary about the deadliest sea creatures. Apparently,in a freak accident, he was stung by a sting ray. Normally not aggressive, the attack shocked everyone. The sting piercing his heart and paramedics could not save him. Sadly, he died while in transit to the hospital. Because we were shocked at the news, I did not have time or insight to whisk my … Continue reading

“Toy Story” and “E.T.” Ready to Return to the Big Screen

Woody and Buzz Lightyear are back… and they have issues. Naturally. Why else would there be a “Toy Story 3?” The popular playthings with attitude are reportedly coping with abandonment issues in the new “Toy Story” sequel. While the new flick isn’t set to debut in theaters until next year, insiders are dropping hints about what the gang will be facing in the third installment. According to John Lasseter, director of the first two “Toy Story” movies and chief creative officer for Pixar and Disney animation, Woody and Buzz learn what happens when a child loses interest in his former … Continue reading

Steve Fossett Declared Dead

It is a sad ending to a man that everyone initially felt would beat the odds. In case you don’t remember, millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett was on a solo flight over the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in his single engine plane on September 3, 2007, but he never returned. After he was three hours late, rescuers and volunteers started a search for the 63-year-old Fossett. Unfortunately, the area that Fossett was over is twice the size of New Jersey. Still optimistic, rescuers continued to search until October 2, but there was still no sign of Fossett or his plane. They … Continue reading

A New Steve Irwin Special to Air January 21st

It has been about four months since we all learned of the death of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin. I still find it hard to believe he is gone. He worked with creatures far more dangerous than the stingray that killed him. After Steve’s death, we heard all types of statistics about how stingray attacks are rare and even then, even fewer are fatal. I cannot remember the exact statistic, but I think I remember Steve was the first person to be killed by a stingray in something like 40+ years. You may have watched the memorial that aired for Steve … Continue reading

Cleaning House

Digging in, purging, washing, dusting, refinishing, reorganizing, and airing out the house… It’s all a part of spring cleaning. When we don’t clean house, it becomes dirty, dusty, worn, disorganized, and the air becomes stagnant; all these things are unhealthy for us to live in. These same things are true of our spiritual life as well. When we turned our lives over to Christ, our bodies become temples for the Holy Spirit to dwell in. “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and … Continue reading

Hey True Blue: Steve Irwin, our Mate, He’s Fair Dinkum Gone.

Hey True Blue, don’t say you’ve gone Say you’ve knocked off for a smoko And you’ll be back later on Hey True Blue, Hey True Blue. Lyrics by John Williamson (“Hey True Blue” was Steve’s favorite song and it was sung by John Williamson at Steve’s Memorial service at the Australia Zoo on 20.9.06.) Steve Irwin has knocked off for smoko (finished for a smoke or tea break). His smoko is going to be a long one and people all over the world will sorely miss him. I know that many people are struggling to make sense of such a … Continue reading

Swimmers Target Stingrays To Avenge Steve Irwin’s Death

“Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s death was a tragedy, but what people have been reportedly doing to avenge his death, to me, seems just as horrific. By now you know that Irwin was fatally injured last week after a stingray barb pierced his chest as he recorded a segment for a wildlife show off the Great Barrier Reef. Since then state officials say at least 10 stingrays have been killed, forcing a spokesman for the late TV star’s animal charity to “urge people not take revenge on the animals.” Officials from the local fisheries department report that “multiple stingray bodies have … Continue reading
