When Did You Start Appreciating Your Parents?

Think about your answer as you read this blog, especially if you are currently an under appreciated parent of a teenager.
According to a new survey, children don't start to appreciate their parents until they reach the age of 22.
Hmm... my daughter is 4... 22 minus 4 equals... a long, long time.
A British research firm recently surveyed 5,000 families and found that it is uncommon for children under the age of 22 to appreciate all the hard work their parents do for them. What's more, survey respondents noted that of everyone in the family teens are among the least likely to show their gratitude to mom and dad.
"Young children look up to their parents, absorbing everything they say and emulating their behavior," research analysts say. "But by the time they reach their teens, they are learning to develop as individuals, which means they naturally push against everything their parents are trying to teach them, and test the boundaries at every opportunity."
Parents of teens know this all too well.
Moody, headstrong, emotional young adults, who actually embrace their moms and dads, PUH-LEEZE. The reality is that most teens consider their parents to be uncool, stifling and overprotective. But, when kids leave home and are forced to fend for themselves - PRESTO! - all of a sudden they begin to realize how much their parents sacrificed for them.
Teens think they know everything. If you are lucky yours will break this habit once they get into their 20s and you will be elevated from chopped liver to prime rib status. That is if the respondents in this British survey are representative of the world at large. If so, you will one day experience a life-affirming moment when your kids finally admit that you really did know best. You'll hear harps play, pigs will fly, and all will be right in the world.
